Year 3/4 Trip to Deva Roman Discovery Centre
When we visited Chester Dewa Museum, we met a very bossy Centurion who marched us around Chester, shouting Sin, dex, sin, all the way to the Roman gardens. In the gardens, we learnt how to form a testudo (a turtle formation) using our shields and how to sneak upon our enemies as the Romans would have done. We went to visit the biggest Roman amphitheater in Britain and marched through this too.
Later after a well-deserved lunch, we found out more about Roman life in the museum. Jack and Ella demonstrated how Romans went to the toilet. Arthur and Ida showed us how Romans would bathe in the Bathhouses, and we found out about some of the rather unsavoury treats that Romans liked to eat, which was a bit stomach turning.
We also found out about visiting the amphitheater, how Romans were seated, some of the animals used and how the slaves were treated (very poorly!).
