Open Minds - Emotion Regulation Workshops
KS1
In Key Stage 1 the children learnt the hot chocolate breathing exercise, the wiggle dance and they learnt about their emotions and made simple action plans to help them come back to happy/calm.
YEAR 3/4
In Year 3/4, we discussed what emotions were at first and children gave examples. We watched a video linked to the Disney film inside out and guessed the feelings and emotions. We looked at ways to control our emotions, e.g. hot chocolate breathing, 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste (thought of a taste). We looked at and talked about the sensory objects, resources and activities that the children liked to use or take part in at home or school. We all did the Wiggle Dance which they all loved. The children completed the sheets to describe their own personal reactions to emotions and then picked out their 3 favourite ideas to help regulate them which they had learned from the workshop.
YEAR 5/6
Year 5/6 took part in the Zones of Regulation Workshop, brought to us by Northpoint. The workshop gave the children practical strategies to support them with regulating their emotions, particularly those tricky ones like stress and anger. It was a fun workshop with game like charades and lots of great discussions.
