Intergenerational Project - Year 3/4
Over the past term, the children in Mrs. Brayshaw’s class have been having a weekly session with Kaye and Holly from Awakening Arts for a local Intergenerational Project.
The children are creating a podcast/radio show with a group of elders from the Women’s Activity Centre (WAC) in Halifax. This is a female only day care service, in the central, Park Ward area of Halifax. They provide a program of structured support to mainly South Asian women aged 50+ who due to cultural sensitivity are exposed to social isolation and deprivation. The centre has adopted a variety of approaches exploring the management of maintaining the physical and mental well-being of older Asian women living in Calderdale.
The children have been learning songs and thinking of questions they can ask the elders; on Monday 22nd April, the children visited the centre to perform songs, chat with the elders and record the podcast!! This was a wonderful experience, in which Year 3/4 learned about another culture and got to share stories and experiences from different ages and perspectives.
